The history of the Bombay breed began in the 1950s with an American breeder, Nikki Horner. Nikki wanted a cat that was like a Burmese but instead of having brown fur with yellow eyes, Nikki wanted a cat that had black fur with copper eyes. Something more like a tiny version panther. The breed's name comes from Bombay, India where appropriately is the land of the black leopard. It took Nikki a few tries to get the Bombay breed down. After some time, she finally got it down. This cat had the coat of a Burmese and an American Shorthair's copper eyes and the black coat color. It took awhile for the cat society to approve the Bombay breed, especially with the Burmese crowd. In 1970, it was finally accepted in the Cat Fancier Association. In 1996, it was noted that there were only 91 Bombays, but that number is increasing of course. As a matter of fact, February of 2010, it was the Bombay that one "Best Breed of Cat." It was the breed's first.
Bombay cats are very loyal to their owners and works perfectly with a family because they give out so much love and affection. They are very friendly cats and when you are feeling down, they are the ones that are going to snuggle with you until you feel better. They are playful cats but not as active and forward as other breeds.
Bombays have a medium-sized body that is very muscular and surprisingly heavier than it looks. The coat is fin and short. It has satin-like texture. The fur is black and lays flat to the body. Since this is a mix breed, the color of its eyes can range from gold to copper.
Pet insurance is on the rise especially in the States. One thing that pet insurance companies do not cover is pre-existing conditions (there may be some exceptions). What Trupanion suggests is that you enroll your cat or dog as soon as you can. You don't want to put it off because what if you pet gets sick and it ends up being more than you can afford.
