BarkOff: Turns Our Dog's Barking Off!
Barking at the TV
Like most all average American families, after supper we sit down in front of the TV for a relaxing evening watching the tube. Although I must admit, with the dumbing down of the TV shows today, there's not a whole lot to watch! At any rate, we have a Maltese named Pepper who's probably smarter than most five year olds. Pepper is a fantastic dog: she was easily housebroken, friendly to all and a good companion. But then, she began to notice the TV set and that's when we found BarkOff.
Pepper and Oscar
A few years ago, there was a commercial for Friskies Cat Food that starred Oscar the cat. The owner would call "Ossscar", and the cat would come to the Little Friskies food bowl. There must have been something about the pitch of the woman's voice that caught Pepper's attention, because she looked up from the sofa, saw the cat and totally freaked out. I didn't think we'd ever get her to stop barking. From then on, whenever she heard "Ossscar" coming from the TV set, regardless where she was in the house, the frantic yapping began.
This led to Pepper literally watching TV in hopes of seeing a four legged creature so she could sound the alarm. Anytime a dog, cat, horse or any other animal came on the TV, she went ballistic.
BarkOff = Quiet
When we saw the BarkOff commercial (of course, Pepper went nuts) we immediately ordered. We had tried everything...even got a dog trainer to come over. Nothing had worked, so we figured we'd give it a try. The first time we used it Pepper looked around with a quizzical look on her face, like "what's that noise"? But she quit barking almost immediately. Because the BarkOff emits an ultrasonic signal, we couldn't hear anything, but she obviously did!
Now, we keep the BarkOff on the end table next to the sofa...right next to the TV remote. For us, it's just part of watching TV. We flip on the tube and I pick up the BarkOff. If any four legged creature pops up on the screen, I just push the button and Pepper stays quiet. There's no dog collar or wires to fool with. For about 17 bucks, no more nuisance barking! I just wish they'd come out with it sooner!
