Buying a Cat

Adoption of a kitten from a shelter: $50 to $100. Purebred kitten: $300 to $1, 200. Breeding quality: $1, 000 to $3, 000 and up to $15, 000.

Shelters: Neutering or spaying. Initial vaccinations. De-worming, and a vet Check-up.

Breeders: Registration papers. Health Certificate from a vet, Initial vaccinations, and de-worming if necessary. Proof kitten does not have leukemia.

Shipping costs: $150 to $300.

Cat Declawing

$100 to $250 depending upon vet. Laser method: $250 to $450.

Anesthesia, pain medications, antibiotics, two day hospital stay, and post surgical examination.

Pre-surgery blood test: $40 to $50 extra. Pain medication patch after surgery: $40 extra.

Neutering

$50 to $100.

Reduced desire to roam, fight, and mark territory.

Pre-anesthesia blood work: $40.

Spaying

$100 to $200.

Reduced risk of mammary cancer. Prevention of urine marking and heat cycles.

$25 to $30 extra for overweight or in heat cats.

Vaccinations

Average cost: $45 to $85 in the first year and $10 to $35 each year afterward.

Feline distemper, rhinotracheitis and caldvirus at 7 weeks, 10 weeks, and 13 weeks.

Rabies vaccine at 12 or 13 weeks. Boosters administered annually.

Leukemia and peritonitis are $5 to $10 extra for each shot.

Owing a Cat

$200 to $700 for basic food, cat litter, veterinarian care, vaccinations and boarding not including grooming

Adoption fee or purchase price, spaying or neutering, initial vaccinations, a general health assessment. May include carrier, litter box, collar, tags and food bowls.

Renters may be charged $100 or more for a pet deposit fee.

Injured or sick cat can cost $100 to $2, 000 depending upon the injury or sickness.

Grooming

At home grooming tools: $10 a year. Professional: $300 and up for two months grooming services.

Professional: Trimming of nails, brushing, and teeth cleaning.

$26 a year on toys. $18 on grooming tools.

Cancer

Varies upon age and treatment needed. Initial visit: $200. Major surgery: $500 and up. Chemotherapy: $200 to $2, 000. Radiation: $1, 000 to $4, 000.

Referral to oncologist or draw up a treatment plan specific to the cancer.

Medications: $25 to $50 per month.

Antibiotics: $30 to $50.

Food

Basic dry kibble: $5 to $8 for a four pound bag each month.Premium dry kibble: $8 to $16 for a four pound bag each month.Canned, frozen or raw: $16 to $38 two cases of 3-ounce cans each month.

Protein, fat, soluble carbohydrates, fiber and vitamins and minerals.

Cat treats: $41 per year. Vtamins: $31 per year.

Teeth Cleaning

At home process: $10 or less.Starter kit: $9 to $11.Veterinarian: $400 average cost.Prices vary from $55 to $830.

Remove tartar and plaque. Polishes teeth with fluoride and conducts a thorough exam for disease and cavities.

Antibiotics for an infection: $30 to $50.

De-worming

Kittens: $31 to $131. At home treatment: $21.99 Cats: Basic visit: $15 to $50. Oral Treatment: $3 to $18.

Diagnostic check, vaccinations, and deworming and medicine.

Disinfect litter box: $5 to $10. Low dose treatments: $33 to $63.

What type of med's do I buy to de-worm kittens, is it round worm stuff. They are 6 weeks old, two have diarrhea. Could that be from the worms?
